The staff of Friends of Second Marsh is responsible for carrying out projects, programs and activities. They also oversee administration, financial management, and the organization of special events. Other responsibilities of staff include working towards the development and construction of the Great Lakes Wetlands Centre, which will be located adjacent to the Marsh.
Meet the current staff of Friends of Second Marsh:
Wioletta Walancik, Administrative and Programs Director
Wioletta, the recipient of the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Award (2001), has a Masters in Environmental Studies from York University. Having previously worked with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and the Black Creek Conservation Project, Wioletta has come to Friends of Second Marsh as the Programs and Events Coordinator. She is responsible for developing and implementing the education programs at Second Marsh Wildlife Area such as Kids in the Marsh Summer Program, Wetlands Walks educational program and Interpretive tours for the community. Wioletta also coordinates volunteers for the Boardwalk Building, Winter Bird Feeding Programs, and acts as Editor of Friends’ newsletter. Wioletta’s involvement with Friends of Second Marsh began in 1994 as a volunteer.
Karen Arbour, Outreach and Planning Associate
Karen has an educational background in parks and forest recreation and website design, as well as over 15 years of work in the environmental and outdoor education field with Central Lake Ontario Conservation. She has traveled throughout Ontario visiting all accessible Provincial Parks, conservation areas, and wildlife reserves, to become better associated with it’s natural areas.
